Future Careers
Prepare for pupillage and life at the Bar.

Many graduates go on to practise at the Bar, either as self-employed barristers or in-house counsel. Others progress into organisations such as the Government Legal Profession or Crown Prosecution Service, or use the qualification in wider legal and professional roles.

Why This Programme Matters
The Reality
- Success at the Bar requires both strong legal knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge under pressure.
- Barristers must advocate effectively, advise clients, draft legal documents, conduct conferences and exercise sound professional judgement.
- Securing pupillage is highly competitive, making practical experience, feedback and professional exposure particularly important.
- UWE Bristol’s BTC integrates knowledge and skills rather than teaching them in isolation.
The Professional Practice Advantage
Knowledge and practical skills are taught alongside one another. For example, after learning about sentencing in Criminal Litigation, you may apply that knowledge in a client conference and then represent the same client in a sentencing hearing during Advocacy.
This integrated approach is designed to reflect the way barristers work in practice.

- Bar Professional Practice
